Montenegro calling

We finally know when the Kotor Cable Car and Alpine coaster open
The wait is over.
So, the season starts on 25 April. Anyone coming for Easter is out of luck, but over the May holidays you'll already be able to ride the cable car.
I've put the main information on prices and opening hours into cards. And note that they have a special offer on online tickets until 25 April. Apparently they're short of money for the opening 🙈

Official website

If you've already taken a ride, share your impressions and photos. I'm still only planning to.

I wish this were an ad, but alas😂

Traffic jams between Budva and Kotor: what to bear in mind for the May holidays

Info for those heading to Montenegro for the May holidays. Although the situation most likely won't get any better in summer either🙈

On the road between Budva and Kotor, major road works have been going on for almost a year now, and they turn getting around into absolute hell. Kilometre-long traffic jams, no way to turn off, no way to move, no way to breathe. And that's before the season has even started. At Easter we spent about an hour stuck on this short stretch. It's scary to imagine what it will be like over the May holidays. Air conditioning to the rescue

The main jam on the Budva–Kotor route is around the village of Radanovici

Today, Monday April 28, the drive from Budva to Kotor takes about an hour according to Google

This is the Balkans, baby! So I recommend allowing for possible delays when planning your trips and switching on polako mode🤷‍♀️

Wisteria in Perast: symbolism and legends

Wisteria is beautiful on its own, but wisteria set against the old buildings of Perast is simply mind-blowing! This plant captures hearts and cameras. And the scent? It's the kind you want to breathe in and never breathe out.

🌸 What is this wonder plant?

Wisteria is a climbing vine with long, hanging clusters of flowers, most often purple, blue or white. It wraps itself around anything in its way: trees, gazebos, houses. In the Balkans, Japan and China you can find wisteria on almost every corner, where its blossoms turn streets into true fairy-tale places.

The symbolism of wisteria

In Japan, wisteria symbolizes romantic relationships, devotion and loyalty.

In China, it's associated with longevity and prosperity.

🌿 Legends about wisteria

One Japanese legend says that wisteria was created as a gift from the gods to unite two souls separated by an invisible barrier. Only wisteria flowers could help these souls reunite, becoming a symbol of eternal love.

Another, Chinese legend tells of a beautiful girl, unjustly rejected by her beloved, who turned into a blossoming wisteria. They say her flowers still give off the scent of love and sorrow.

💡 Fun facts

Wisteria can bloom so abundantly in spring that its flowers hang down up to 3 metres long, creating a waterfall effect.

Wisteria grows fast and, if you don't keep it in check, it can "swallow" everything in its path.

This plant can live and bloom for up to 100 years.

In some countries, Japan for example, wisteria is used in cooking — its flowers are added to salads and desserts.

And honestly, no words can describe the delicacy and beauty of these finest flowers, this fleeting beauty, the rain of petals, the scent you never want to walk away from.

Wisteria — one love!

Perast from above

Perast. One of the most beautiful towns in Montenegro. From above

I've only been there in autumn and spring. Is it true that it's impossible to park there in summer?

Srećan Uskrs! Happy Easter!

I wonder where everyone is spending the holidays? Share)

And today we climbed to the top of Mount Vrmac, to the Church of St. Vitus. 440 m high and an incredible view of Tivat and the whole bay! The first mentions of this church date back to the 7th century. The route is easy, tested by a 6-year-old)

Tivat at night and farewell to visa-free Montenegro

Tivat by night. 2 days and 2 skies

Slowly saying goodbye to visa-free Montenegro.

Do you think the visa will be electronic? I'm curious what you think about it. Are you planning to get a visa and keep going anyway? Or forget it?)

May holidays in Montenegro: carnival, funicular and roadworks

The May holidays are coming soon and, as usual, half the Balkans will spend them in Montenegro.
And we're those very people who've already been there before you and came back with insights 😄

Here's some useful stuff, tested first-hand:

The Budva Carnival, famous in certain circles, takes place this year from May 1 to 3. I highly recommend making it to the first, "informal" day. On that day a parade in carnival costumes makes its way through all the venues of the Old Town, and tables with treats are laid out everywhere. The whole Old Town parties till morning) there'll be lots of concerts and parties.
As for the "main" day… let's just say: long, questionably organized and with the vibe of a local community centre.

The Kotor cable car starts running from May 1. And they've already started ticket presales. You can buy tickets at a discount before the season starts.

The road between Kotor and Budva is still under repair.🚘
But! For the first time in ages there's light at the end of the tunnel (and it's not oncoming headlights). The repairs are unlikely to be finished by May, but there's a chance by summer. The traffic jams are already more bearable.

The sea.
On April 12 it was about 16 degrees. In reality — ice-cold. There are brave souls, I tried too… and got out faster than I got in 😅
It should be kinder by May.

At Miloš Oyster Farm you can now try sea urchins.
Well, so-so)) an acquired taste. Worth trying once)

And finally — for hiking lovers.
I found a great local channel, the guys go on weekend hikes along very beautiful routes (not an ad, just envy). As usual, our dates didn't match. But maybe you'll be luckier.

All in all, Montenegro is calling!

The end of visa-free travel to Montenegro and Pržno beach

You've all heard the very unpleasant news, right? That from November 1 our visa-free story with Montenegro may come to an end

I really want to make the most of this country while I still can.

For example, I still haven't made it to Prokletije and Durmitor. So sad. Hopefully this autumn it'll work out. 🤞

And what else would you like to see in Montenegro while there's still time?

For inspiration, here's a photo report by Edshoots from one of my all-time favourite beaches in Montenegro — Pržno. 🤍

If you want to know a bit more about Pržno — I've already told you about it here. 🤍
