Stari Slankamen and Kupinovo: spring and sunsets by the Danube

A walk to see the first spring flowers in Stari Slankamen

Can you feel it? Spring is in the air.
Which means it's time to get out of the city for a walk🌱

On 8 February we're going to Stari Slankamen — to walk through the fields and along the Danube. No mountains or heroics this time. And it's less than an hour's drive from Belgrade.
We'll look for the first spring flowers🪻, breathe fresh air, stretch our legs and watch nature wake up after winter.

🌿 The route is easy and pleasant; we'll choose the length to suit the group's level.

🌼 Our guide will be Natalia:
- an expert on Stari Slankamen with 20 years' experience,
- a coach and nutritionist,
- a passionate botanist and herbalist.

Along the way Natalia will tell us about the history, climate and geography of these places. We'll pick the first violets, dandelions and other spring flowers, and find out how they can be used as food. We'll hear about the Slankamen spa and the spring of solar water — one of the treasures of Vojvodina.

If the spring is running, we'll try its healing water, so bring an empty bottle just in case.

And then — lunch at a restaurant and a visit to our favourite historic winery at Milan's.
He's waiting 🍷

🏰 A bit of history (and it's incredible here)
Stari Slankamen sits on a prominent loess hill above the Danube.
Once there was an ancient fortification here, and later the medieval fortress of Acumincum.
Artefacts from Celtic and Roman times have been found in these parts.
Today all that's left of the fortress are picturesque ruins — and one of the most beautiful views of the Danube and the Bačka plain.
We'll definitely climb to the top (spoiler: a five-year-old managed the climb), stroll around the hill and soak up the energy of this place.

🍇After the walk we'll head down to one of the oldest surviving buildings in Stari Slankamen, which now houses a winery. Our hospitable host will tell us, in excellent Russian, about his unique winemaking method and show us around the former parish house, whose cellar still holds the remains of a 16th-century Turkish bath, as well as the winery itself.

🌿 So, what awaits us is a relaxed photo walk through the countryside along the Danube. We'll have a glass of wine at the winery. And we'll enjoy nature, fresh air and great company.

💶 Price 50 €

Included:
* transfer
* escort
* winery tour
* a glass of wine

Extra:
* lunch
* wine (if one glass turns out not to be enough — and it won't be 😉)

Prices for the winery's extra services are in the comments.

Photo exchange, 8 February. Slankamen — season opening🦢

The day started with thick fog and ended with sunshine. We walked along the Danube and saw the loess hills. It was especially interesting to look at them in cross-section — with fossils.

We visited a real Yugoslav vikendica and hunted for herons in a nature reserve. We watched nature wake up after winter: we found the first snowdrops and dandelions. We climbed up to the fortress, ate our fill of fish and drank plenty of wine.

And even though not everything went to plan — overall we had a great walk, learned a lot, breathed fresh air and chatted.
Huge thanks to Natasha for the interesting route and to all the participants for the wonderful company, understanding and trust! ❤️

Share your photos and impressions

Hugs to everyone 🤗🫶🏻 and see you soon!

Blossoming white sakura in Stari Slankamen

The white sakura of Stari Slankamen invites you to hanami this sunny morning.
花見 (hanami) is an ancient Japanese tradition of admiring blossoms. Not just looking.
Stopping. Breathing in. Feeling beauty with your whole being.

Kupinovo at sunset

The sun begins to sink towards the horizon, painting the sky in soft shades — from golden orange to pink and crimson. The scent of herbs drifts in from the field. The light settles on the rooftops and glints in the windows. Everything around fills with calm: the birds fall silent, the wind dies down, and it seems as if nature itself is holding its breath…
