“Harpsichord, a Living Art” festival — Jasmina Raković

23. međunarodni festival „Čembalo, živa umetnost“ – JASMINA RAKOVIĆ
ConcertsFestivals

The harpsichord is when the music is three hundred years old but sounds like it just walked into the room.

The 23rd international festival "Čembalo, živa umetnost" (Harpsichord, a Living Art) is kicking off, and it opens with Jasmina Rakković, who recently completed her master's in harpsichord at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. She lives and works in Slovenia but is originally from Belgrade. The programme is called "Women's Voices Through the Centuries": women composers from the 17th century to the present day. The list includes Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, Elisabetta de Gambarini, Anna Bon of Venice, Marianna von Martines, Amy Beach and Urška Pompe with an antiphon inspired by Hildegard of Bingen.

It all takes place at the SANU Gallery in Belgrade, hosted by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. I confess I'm hearing half of these names for the first time, and that's a great reason to finally fix that.

How many women composers can you name without a hint? 👇
