Elections in Serbia: when you read the news more carefully than the ballot.
This isn't a listing but a news story, yet it concerns everyone who lives here. According to statements by the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office and Serbia's Ministry of the Interior, special operations took place in Novi Sad and Kraljevo. Several people were detained, including members of a local criminal group and a resident of Vrnjačka Banja, who is accused of calling for a violent change of the constitutional order.
According to the investigation, around 80 people were to be deployed in Belgrade on 25 October, polling day: riots, car arson, attacks on citizens and clashes with the police using incendiary mixtures. Searches of the detainees' property and vehicles are under way. The suspects and their representatives have not yet stated their position, so for now this is the prosecution's version, not a verdict.
Just in case, I'll be following the news — and you? 👇
