Plašintijada in Rudna Glava
🥞If you don't like pancakes, feel free to skip the next post.
Everyone else, rejoice! On 24 May the village of Rudna Glava hosts the Plašintijada!
🥞Plašinta is something between a pancake and a pie. More formally, it's a traditional Vlach dish: a thin flatbread, often filled with cheese, potato or greens.
The Plašintijada is an annual food festival dedicated to preserving the culture, traditions and customs of the Vlachs of Eastern Serbia.
The program includes making plašintas of all kinds, a championship for the most authentic recipe and the most creative one. Attention: a speed sock-knitting contest!
You'll also be able to solve the Vlach puzzle. There will be a speed pancake-eating contest and a pairs race running with pancakes in your mouths. And of course a fair selling local crafts and live music performances. But that's not all!! For dessert, there's a performance by the festival's special guest, Rade Jorović (by the way, a very famous Serbian singer)
All in all, I don't know about you, but I really want to go to this Plašintijada😂🙈
The downsides: it's a 3-hour drive from Belgrade, and of course it'll all be very small-town. BUT! Rudna Glava is a beautiful little village with loads of natural sights around, so there's plenty to see. Plus it's an amazing chance to soak up the atmosphere of a traditional Serbian village, try authentic food and meet the hospitable locals.
On the same dates – the kulen festival in Bački Petrovac
It's a bit of a drive, but if you'd like to eat some plašinta and support the Vlachs, write in the comments.

Kulen Festival in Bački Petrovac
🎉 Info for food-tourism lovers!
Remember I wrote that this weekend there's a pancake festival in Rudna Glava, the Plašintijada? It's a 3-hour drive.
But I found a closer option: just 1.5 hours and you're in Bački Petrovac, at the traditional May kulen festival!
The perfect event for meat lovers 🔥
🍽 The Kulen Festival is a food celebration held every May as part of "Petrovac Days". Besides sausage tasting, expect craft fairs, music and folklore performances.
🥩 What is kulen?
It's a dry-cured smoked pork sausage with a rich flavor. Lots of paprika, garlic and patience: kulen is made in winter and matures for anywhere from a few months to half a year. The result is a delicacy with a dense texture and a deep aroma. It's served at New Year, Easter, weddings and big holidays.
🎪 What awaits you at the festival:
— Tastings and sales of kulen made to traditional recipes
— A contest for the best kulen in the country
— Fresh sausage-making competitions
— A craft fair and live music
📌 When and where:
May 23–25, Bački Petrovac — sausages, crafts, atmosphere.
👣 What else to see in town:
— The oldest house in Bački Petrovac, 1799 (a museum, open from 10:00 to 14:00)
— The Dunđerski family castle
— PetroLand water park
— A photogenic windmill (you can't go inside, but the photos will be 🔥)
📍 A great option for an independent day trip. Save it and share with your friends!
Have a tasty weekend!

Sačijada in Stražilovo and the Bean Festival in Temerin
If neither wine nor dancing appeals to you, Belgrade is hot and stuffy, and you want to get out of town and your soul is craving adventure, here are two perfect reasons not to stay home on 7 June:
🥩 Meat lovers – head to the SAČIJADA in Stražilovo, Sremski Karlovci!
An international festival of dishes cooked under the sač: this year not only lamb will be slow-cooking under the sač, but also a new addition – PIES under the sač. Mmm, yummy, and all of it to the sound of drums! Pros and amateurs cook, guests enjoy the food and the atmosphere!
🌱 Vegetarians, head to Temerin for the bean festival "Prosto kao pasulj" ("Simple as beans")!
200 teams, 3,000 portions, a huge cauldron and fun contests all day long! You can register your own team and take part. Here is all the detailed information about the festival. The beans are cooked over wood fires, and you'll have a lot of serious tasting to do. There are also prizes and songs promised. All proceeds go to charity.
This is the Balkans, baby! Where else will you find such a variety of food entertainment? The hardest part is choosing: under the sač, in the cauldron, wine or dancing! Good luck😂

Wine vs rakija: food festivals of one weekend
🥂🥃Wine vs. rakija: a food weekend in Serbia
Upd: Houston, we have a cancellation! No fish this weekend, only alcohol. We're crossing out Bač, following the Wine Park in Sremska Mitrovica. Honestly, now there are doubts whether the other fests will happen at all. It's all because of cases of African swine fever among pigs in this region😬. Be careful with your barbecue.
It's been a while since I posted any announcements of local food fests. Making up for it. This weekend there's plenty to choose from. There'll be wine, lots of wine even, rakija and fish stew. All that's left is to decide whose team you're on🥊
Let's go:
🍇 Vlasotince — "Wine Ball" (22–23.08)
Here they don't just taste wine, they also compete in speed-drinking spritzers, and a rather odd contest has been announced — literally *wine barrel swimming*. The festival has been running since 1960, and every time it's a mini-Olympics for winemakers (and for anyone who simply likes a glass of wine).
🍑 Blace — "Plum Days" (22–24.08)
A town that even put up a monument to… a plum! The region has about 2 million plum trees, so this may well be the homeland of rakija. The tasting programme includes rakija, jams and preserves! And of course, contests and concerts. If you want to be at the epicentre of the "plum kingdom", this is the place.
🐟 Bač — "Kotlić" (23.08)
Over 100 teams cook fish paprikash in cauldrons. A traditional contest followed by tastings. And the awards go not only for taste but also for the most beautifully set table. When even the tablecloths compete.
🎶 Zemun — "Zemun Fest" (20–24.08)
For those who don't want to leave Belgrade — a festival in Zemun. There will be *everything at once*: open-air cinema, concerts (Who See, Zoster, Osvajači), art installations, food courts with flavours from every continent. Perfect for anyone who can't decide between wine, food and music.
So, which do we pick – a glass of wine 🍷 or plum rakija 🍑?

Review of the Kobasicijada in Turija.
Warning: these photos may cause uncontrollable drooling🤤Vegetarians had better not look.
We arrived around 1 p.m. — all the roadsides on the nearby streets were already lined with cars. The parking was chaotic and completely uncontrolled 🙂 But luckily, finding a spot wasn't hard.
The "Kobasicijada" festival is basically a big village fair where there's just… a whole lot of sausage. No, really, I've never seen so much sausage in one place))
Besides sausage, they sold other farm products too: homemade kajmak, cheeses, honey — in short, the classic set no Serbian food fair can do without. Lambs and piglets were turning on spits, cracklings sold by weight were flying off at crazy speed, and svadbarski kupus was slowly stewing in huge pots. Sausage was sizzling everywhere, and the aromas were simply indescribable — even people who are usually indifferent to sausage wanted a taste.
🌭We dutifully stood in a 40-minute line to the most popular cook (I don't know who this hero is, but his line didn't end until the very end of the festival) and then finished that sausage over the next two days — it was so huge there was no way to manage it in one go))
Without exaggeration, it's a celebration for meat-eaters: everyone around was eating something, everyone had a bag of sausage in hand. We also gave in to the general frenzy and left with a jar of village kajmak.
Local musicians performed on stage, and right in the middle of the fair you could run into old guys enthusiastically singing… songs about sausage, of course. 🍷The locals were going hard on the rakija, while the visitors were more modest and warmed up with kuvano vino. For kids – trdelníks, cotton candy and rides: bumper cars, carousels — all a bit retro, but that's exactly what makes it so atmospheric.
Next to the stage they showed how the famous Turija sausage is made, and there was a contest for the tastiest one. And then a tractor ceremoniously brought in over two kilometers of ready-made sausage — you could try it on the spot or buy it raw straight "off the tractor". Prices: from 250 to 600 RSD for a sausage in bread.
The locals and vendors looked stern at first, but as soon as you started talking they turned out to be real sweethearts and happily posed for photos.
All in all, it was very colorful and very tasty)) It's definitely worth going at least once — but better with a group, it's more fun.
